Goodbye, Baby...Hello, Toddler!

Okay, I know officially that Fuss is already a toddler. She's past 1 and walking. However, she was still in her crib. I figured as long as she wasn't climbing out, I wasn't going to transition her to the toddler bed setting (we have a convertible crib that goes all the way to a full size bed). She was great until recently. A couple weeks ago she started pulling herself up on the railing. Then, she would try to get her foot up over the railing. No big deal. She couldn't even potentially reach.

But in the last 2 weeks, she has gained another tooth AND at least 1" in height. I didn't think anything of it. Until today. This morning Fuss pulled up and put her foot over the railing on her crib! Had I not been standing right there, she would have fallen on her head. Joy. Now it's time to get the side rail out and set up her toddler-stage bed.

Personally, I am NOT ready for this. I am not ready for Fuss to get out of bed on her own in the middle of the night and come get mommy and daddy. I am not ready for her to be up at God-knows-what-hour in the morning running through the house. *I* am not ready. But she is. So, as usual, we follow her lead.

Now, to convince Daddy it needs done today....

  1. I went through this fairly recently with one of mine - the toddler bed transition happened WAY earlier than I had hoped for! I actually had to reverse the lock on his door (as awful as that sounds) so he wouldn't roam the house in the middle of the night (and potentially go outside since he knows how to unlock the deadbolts and such - yikes!). It helps me sleep better at night, and we will eventually turn the lock back around - maybe :) Good luck!

    1. Haha! I can see that! And I really don't blame you one bit! Fuss doesn't know how to unlock deadbolts yet nor does she know how to turn door knobs. I'm hoping that she'll transition easily and I won't have to worry about it for a while! Even if I do, I will just latch the door and she shouldn't be able to get out of her room for a while.

  2. My oldest got that foot up on the rail at nine months, even though we had a convertible crib in his room we ended up buying a toddler bed to put in our bedroom so we could lock him in with us, we were definitely not ready for him to roaming at that age. It's tough when toddlers get independent because no matter what they are still babies and need to be protected, they just don't want that anymore.

    1. It really is tough. Fuss has had no desire to get out until today. Speaking from past experience with her, though, once she decides she's going to do it, it's done. She did that with walking. All of a sudden one day she took off and never stopped. Your little guy sounds like he's gonna be a handful too!
