I have a lot of people asking me about my Medical Transcription School. I went through Career Step via my local vocational school. The best part? I had a grant! The program is VERY extensive including several thousands ACTUAL TRANSCRIPTIONS from REAL doctors! Yeah, I know the "thousands" sounds really intimidating, but it's not that bad. Most of the transcriptions are around 1 minute or so in length, so it goes rather quickly. Now, the proofreading part of the process was not fun, but it was worth it.

I seriously recommend Career Step and actually plan on using them if I decide to do Medical Coding as well. I think my favorite part about the program is the post-graduate services. I have had help with creating a resume as well as a list of employers willing to hire CS graduates! They literally provided everything I needed to get started and be able to work immediately after graduation!

I won't know my scores for a couple weeks, however, I have submitted my transcription final. I am SO excited (and relieved) to have finally finished this course! I started it when Fuss was 5 months old. She is now 25 months. That means it took me 20 months to finish a course that should be able to be completed in 9 months. When I started, the advisor I had at the time told me that she knew of one person who finished in 6 months! A little too fast for my taste, but whatever floats your boat! Admittedly, I had some road blocks along the way. Fuss would cut a tooth or get sick; Hubby needed help immediately on a home project to make it safe for Fuss; computer glitches and crashes happened. Now, that it's done, I'm not sure where I'm going next. My hope is to be able to work from home and still take care of Fuss with the level of care and attention she needs (and expects). If I can't find a WAH job, I guess we'll take whatever steps are necessary to make it work, like we always do.

I, also, now have some tomato plants to put into "pots." We're actually using 5-gallon buckets for the moment. I can almost taste those nice, fresh, juicy tomatoes just thinking about it! In addition to that, I have the start of an herb garden that my MIL gave me for Mother's Day last year. It has rosemary and parsley still alive from last year, but I plan on adding some basil and a couple others soon. My MIL also just gave me a pot of oregano for Mother's Day! Since I have Beast, I have to be careful where I keep anything...he'll either eat it or pee on it. On the other hand, we have deer. Lots of 'em. And they eat EVERYTHING!! Apparently, they don't eat herbs, so I may be able to work with that. They will eat tomatoes. That means Hubby and I have to figure out a way to keep them at bay.

Naturally, Mother's Day was yesterday. We didn't do anything special. I made spaghetti for "dinner" and took a card and flower up to my MIL. Hubby got me a beautiful card, but he had to work so we didn't get to celebrate. I did get snuggles most of the day from Fuss though and that was really nice! I will be getting my mom her present sometime today since I didn't get to her yesterday.

I am getting closer to the end of my medical transcription course. It's about time to start looking at writing my resume and finding a *gasp* job! I'll still be working from home, though, hopefully. Fuss is still way too clingy and it's entirely too expensive to pay for daycare anyway. I'm just very excited about this and had to share! I'm at a total completion of 81.9% HALLELUIAH! It has been nearly 18 months since I started the course and I am determined to finish!

Now, the question is, what should hubby and I do to celebrate WHEN I get finished? Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Almost Done!

I'm so very excited to share that I am now at 75.7% completed on my coursework for Medical Transcription! I still have to work hard because my last program module is worth 150 hours of coursework, but I know I can do it! I am so close now!! I can't wait to be able to get a "real" job and help provide for my family.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

I'm FINALLY seeing it! It's been 2 years of hard work (as well as those times I get to frustrated to continue for a week) but I'm almost finished with my medical transcription course! Well, I say "almost finished." I still have a ways to go. I'm currently sitting at 61.1% completion. That leaves 38.9% still to do, but I'm confident I can get this done by May 24th. Maybe sooner!

The hardest thing about working on transcription while Fuss is awake is that I have a foot pedal to control the speed/stop/start of my audio files. Right now, my main computer is dismantled due to remodeling. I'm on my laptop. This leaves my foot pedal exposed. Fuss LOVES to come and step on it, on my foot, or just stand on the pedal in general. Quite irritating whilst trying to listen to an audio file. Seriously, had I known online schooling was going to be this difficult, I would have gone for the brick-and-mortar school. I'm not unhappy with my decision overall, though. My only disappointment is that I don't feel like many people have taken me seriously with it.

Now, we have 2 goals: 1. Finish most of our remodel and put the office area and desk back together so I can have my desktop back and be able to place the foot pedal out of harm's way.
2. Finish this schooling once and for all! As soon as I get done, I'm going to get a job. I really hope it's one that will allow me to work from home. Hubby and I just don't want to put Fuss in daycare if we don't have to.

It's nice to finally be able to say I'm on the downward part of this journey though! And I sincerely hope you all will stay with me through the rest of this crazy journey.
